Last week, students and teachers at NSES celebrated their love for reading. Although we had some fabulous activities all week, two favorites were the Door Decorating Contest and the read-a-thon. On Friday, students brought blankets and some classrooms even had a pajama day so kids could relax, sit back, and just read. Throughout the week, it was so much fun to walk through the school and see how many classrooms chose to decorate their doors with a favorite book, author, or theme about reading. Here are some pictures to show how we celebrated.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year – for reading teachers, anyway! It’s Reading Week, a time to celebrate our love for reading, words, authors, and books. We have a full week of fun planned here at NSES. Take a look:
|Monday||Teacher shares his or her favorite childhood book|
|Tuesday||“Wear Something You Can Read” Day
Wear something with words or create your own shirt to read.
Share poems in your classroom.
|Thursday||Invite a Guest Reader Day
Remember this can include “guests” from inside our school (other teachers, the secretary, the principal!).
|Friday||Read -a- thon
Pick one full hour during the school day to do nothing but read. Read books, magazines, articles, writing from friends. Bring a blanket, get cozy and read!
- Each morning there will be a mystery reader who will read over the intercom and the classrooms will buzz up to the office with their guess.
- Door Decorating Fun! During Reading Week, classrooms will have the opportunity to participate in decorating your door as your classroom’s favorite book cover. Each classroom that participates will be entered into a drawing to win a special party hosted by the Reading Teachers.
We will be posting some pictures of our Door Decorating throughout the week. Be sure to check in and see how great they look!
